I’m Alive Today

by Paulette Brooks

The centre of me is Fragile and frozen and falling Yet in the blink of an eye you come to me comforting and calling My backbone is crumbling and crashing and crying In the early morning hours the pain of illusion confronts me with dying And yet somehow something moves me, lifts me shifts me again Like the tiniest of green shoots in a concrete slab I rise, I push, I play I’m alive today I say.
